These couple photos at Texas winery Fall Creek Vineyards is definitely one of my all-time favorites.

Olivia hired me to surprise her boyfriend Jorge with a photo session during their vacation in Dripping Springs to celebrate their one-year anniversary.

According to Olivia, Jorge loves to take pictures of her on their adventures together. And he’s apparently a pro at surprises, so she wanted to one-up him with an unforgettable experience.

So just picture Jorge’s expression when I wandered up to their table at Fall Creek Vineyards with my camera in one hand and a bottle of champagne in the other. He’d spent the whole day trying to guess his surprise — a guided hike? Or a wine tasting? — and he did not guess at all that Olivia had booked a photographer to capture photos at a Texas winery.

We had the best time sipping champagne, wandering around the winery’s grounds, and getting to know each other. It felt so organic and collaborative. There’s something about killing two bottles of champagne during a shoot that brings out the silliest but also most passionate in people!

This session was the definition of a Storytelling Session. My best work is created when we plan your photos around an activity — it’s a natural way to add dynamic motion to photos, plus it gives you something to do with your hands.

Once we ran out of daylight, we split a bottle of red and hung out for an extra half-hour, talking about our favorite hikes in Texas and what music we’ve been listening to lately. This session really was something special.
