I get asked for my best Chapel Dulcinea tips all the time, so I figured it was time to condense them all into the ultimate guide to my favorite wedding venue in Central Texas.
Chapel Dulcinea is hands-down one of the most beautiful venues in the Texas Hill Country… and it’s free on the weekdays and absolutely affordable on the weekends.
Chapel Dulcinea holds an incredibly special place in my heart. It is both where I got married myself in 2018 and where I photographed my first wedding, ever. I’ve seen the chapel in so many different scenarios. At my first wedding as a photographer, it rained cats and dogs. (And everyone survived!) At the second wedding I shot there, it was 30 degrees and there were five people at the wedding. At my own wedding, we seated around 20 people and despite a December wedding date, had wonderful weather. I have since photographed over 30 weddings at Chapel Dulcinea, and I can say as a fact that no matter the season or the weather, the venue is beautiful and will leave your guests in awe.
First things first, here’s a general explanation of how using the chapel works:
- You sign up for a 1.5-hour slot in advance. Seriously, do it way in advance. Saturdays and Sundays fill up FAST, so the second you decide to tie the knot, make a reservation.
- The chapel is meant for small, intimate weddings. It seats 12 and 30-35 standing.
- The chapel is rain-or-shine and does not do refunds. It does, however, allow you to re-schedule for free.
- The chapel does not provide an officiant or any other vendors. They do offer recommendations.
- Ringing the chapel’s bells after you say your vows is the coolest part of getting married here. Don’t skip it!
How much does it cost to rent Chapel Dulcinea?
- Monday – Thursday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM | The Chapel is FREE with a $200 refundable deposit unless you don’t show up.
- Monday – Thursday, 7:00 PM | $500
- Friday – Sunday, 8:30 AM – 8:30 PM | $500
- Monday – Sunday, 8:30 PM Night Flame Ceremony | $1000
So, what is the best time slot to book at the venue?
This will depend on the time of year and the weather for the day, but many of my favorite photos at Chapel Dulcinea have been taken during the 3:30 PM – 5:00 PM slot. During the summer time, the 7:00 PM slot is during golden hour and Chapel D has beautiful sunset views.
The sun will shine into the chapel and create uneven lighting until noon, but there’s always a chance you get a cloudy day. Still, if I had to choose, I would say 8:30 AM is my least favorite time slot. (But that’s only if I HAVE to choose!)
Pro tip: The 5 PM – 6:30 PM timeslot is reserved for couples who book the Veranda Room reception venue. During the fall and winter, this is the best time slot if you want golden hour photos.

13 Chapel Dulcinea Tips
1. The time slot goes by quickly – plan buffer time!
I have seen many couples plan a very tight timeline at Chapel Dulcinea that goes off the rails if something (like hair and makeup) runs late. Schedule in more time than you think you need and try not to pack too much into your time slot. Chapel Dulcinea is the perfect venue for simple wedding days. Your wedding day can start to feel stressful if you try to pack in a whole wedding day into 90 minutes.
Additionally, communication is the key to a stress free wedding day. Communicate to your guests your timeline and be sure to explain the time limits of your day.
2. Hire a Coordinator
My top tip when planning your Chapel Dulcinea wedding is to hire a coordinator. You might not think you need one for an intimate celebration at a smaller venue, but trust me: you do! The venue is actually much bigger and more spread out than most couples expect—there’s the main chapel, the pavilion area, the paths, and the parking lot, all connected by winding walkways and scenic overlooks. A coordinator helps manage those logistics seamlessly, from greeting vendors and guests to making sure everyone (and everything!) gets to the right spot on time.
Because the venue runs multiple ceremonies a day, everything has to stay on schedule, and Chapel Dulcinea staff aren’t there to coordinate your timeline or setup. Having a professional on hand means your family and friends can simply enjoy the day—rather than running around setting up chairs, chasing down bouquets, or trying to manage the music cues. You’ll all get to be fully present for the moments that matter most, instead of feeling rushed or stressed.

3. Get your hair + makeup done before you arrive
Absolutely do not waste any of your precious time having your hair + makeup artist come to the chapel. The dressing room is not very well lit, anyways. Instead, schedule your hair and makeup appointment several hours before your time slot — always give yourself more time than you think you need.

4. OR get ready at the Wizard’s Cottage
The Wizard’s Cottage is an Airbnb located on the same property as Chapel Dulcinea (and across the street from Tuscan Hall.) Many of my clients book it for their wedding day so they can get ready on-site. In addition to the convenient location, it’s also a really beautiful place to stay!
5. Arrive early (or at least on time!)
I recommend arriving up to 30 minutes early. Sometimes the getting ready rooms are ready early if the couple before you was ahead of schedule. The staff at Chapel Dulcinea are usually more than happy to let you start your rental early if it’s possible – just please be nice to them if they are unable to accomodate the request.
When you arrive, check into the Welcome Center—with all of your check-in forms completed—and then use that extra time to take detail shots around the gorgeous venue. If the rooms aren’t ready early, consider stopping by the Crowded Barrel Whiskey bar on site for a pre-ceremony drink!
6. Get creative with decor
Chapel Dulcinea is already gorgeous on its own, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t add your own personal touch to the chapel. For example, if you have a winter wedding you could have a little Christmas tree! This may be a personal preference, but real florals are totally the way to go and many florists will give you a reduced rate for a small venue. If you can’t find a florist with the capacity to do a smaller order, many of my couples have had wonderful experiences working with the Blooms department at H-E-B.
If you’re planning to do a lot for decor, make sure you hire someone or have friends who can decorate the chapel as you get ready. You won’t have time to do it all.
Just remember the chapel’s main decor-related rules:
- No fake petals, rice, or confetti. Real petals and bubbles are OK.
- No Sparklers or sky lanterns. But Candles in glass containers at the front of the chapel are OK.
- No attachments to the walls using tacks, nails, staples or other things that might leave a mark.
7. Renting chairs at the chapel is worth it
Yes, $6.50 per chair might seem like a lot, but you’ll be grateful you didn’t have to lug a ton of chairs up the hill by yourself or worry about set-up the day of. The chapel takes care of everything for you, making seating one less thing you have to worry about.
8. Lighting the gaslights in honor of a deceased loved one will mean more to your family than you think
We lit the gaslights in honor of my husband’s deceased aunt, who died from cancer years earlier, and it meant so much to his mother. The chapel lists their name on a sign and its a simple reminder that your loved one is there in spirit.
9. For music, hire a string-based musician—or use a small Bluetooth speaker
While Chapel Dulcinea does not allow amplified music, many couples have used a small portable Bluetooth speaker to play music.
If you’re looking for something more romantic or formal, I suggest hiring one of Austin’s many talented guitarists, violinists, harpists, or string quartets. This is the Live Music Capital of the World, after all!
10. Plan accordingly for the weather
Because Chapel Dulcinea is an open-air chapel, there is no air-conditioning or heating at the venue. Make sure your guests are aware and dress accordingly. Since the venue is in an elevated area, it is colder and hotter than the city of Austin. Consider using the weather as inspiration for your gifts. For example, supply blankets or fans when your guests arrive.
If it rains on your wedding day, embrace it! The very first wedding I ever photographed at Chapel Dulcinea—actually, EVER—experienced inclement weather. Since its an open-air chapel, that reality might seem daunting. But from my experience, it’s actually not too bad. The covering of the chapel keeps you and your guests dry.
Plan ahead and recommend your guests bring umbrellas since there is a walk from the parking lot to the ceremony site. In fact — this could be a great opportunity to create cute and useful thank-you gifts from guests. You could also bring a nice-looking umbrella to use as a prop for your photos.
At the end of the day, it’s important to remember that a little bit of rain on your wedding day is actually a sign of good luck.
11. Take advantage of the Spence Diamond Pavillon
The Spence Diamond Pavillon is the perfect place for a champagne toast, cut into your cake, have your first dance, or do any other tradition you’d like.
12. Host your reception at one of these reputable restaurants
Chapel Dulcinea recommends you rent Tuscan Hall or the Veranda Room, which are both a short walk from the chapel and incredibly convenient.

13. Speaking of Tuscan Hall, it’s a beautiful spot to take portraits
On the days there isn’t a wedding reception booked at Tuscan Hall, many of my clients use it as a second location for wedding day portraits. Since the time slot at Chapel Dulcinea goes by quickly, this is a great spot to get more portraits once your time slot ends. Just make sure to call in advance and get permission!
