When Micah first reached out to tell me that he was planning a surprise proposal for Kimmy in May 2022, I could hardly contain my excitement. Not just because I love proposals, but because this particular proposal was for my childhood best friend. Kimmy and I first met in sixth grade. She was one of my main subjects as I fell in love with photography throughout middle school.
So as I hid behind the holly shrubs at the Nasher Sculpture Center in Dallas, my hands shaking and my pulse racing, I realized I was back where it all began:
Documenting the moments that matter for people I love.
It was an honor to capture such a momentous weekend for someone who has been there since day one.
But… let’s get back to the details of the surprise proposal!
Micah planned everything about the surprise proposal down to the last detail. He chose to propose to Kimmy at the Nasher Sculpture Center because it was where they had their first date. He worked with the staff at the center to have a curated playlist playing over the sound system as he and Kimmy made their way through the garden where a chilled bottle of champagne awaited their celebration. Once they privately celebrated their engagement, he whisked her away to a swanky Airbnb along White Rock Lake where all of her closest friends were waiting to celebrate the surprise proposal as well.
Micah’s understood the key ingredients for a successful surprise proposal: Intentionality and thoughtfulness.
You could tell from the way he planned the proposal that he understood what would make a really special weekend for Kimmy. I can’t wait to photograph their wedding next December!
